Forgot to add a post for the Henry Lever Action .22 Magnum Rifle I bought back in June. I found that I wanted gun with a little more oomph than the .22 I have, but less than the .223. I wavered between a .22 Mag and a .17 HMR, but finally settled on at the .22 Mag because you can use it for larger game, and I don’t think I’ll need the longer range that the .17 HMR affords. And yeah, in the Henry gun I was looking to buy, the .22 Mag comes with a scope, while the .17 HMR only has iron sights.

This time I purchased a handgun, a Springfield Armory XDS 45ACP to go with my CCW. It has two capacities 5 + 1/6 + 1. It has a Tritium Front Sight and weighs 22.5 oz. The model number is XDSG93345B and I bought it at Sportman’s Warehouse on sale. Here’s a picture.

Well, time for some new guns. I’ve ordered a SAVAGE 110 APEX STORM XP STAINLESS 6.5 CREEDMOOR 24-INCH 4RDS WITH SCOPE and a SAVAGE 110 APEX PREDATOR XP MOSSY OAK MOUNTAIN COUNTRY RANGE CAMO .308 WIN 20-INCH 4RDS WITH SCOPE. The Creedmoor comes with a factory mounted Vortex Crossfire II 3-9×40 scope and the .308 comes with a Vortex Crossfire 4-12×44 Scope with a BDC reticle that has been mounted from the factory. Can’t wait take them out to the shooting range to try them out.

This recall affects my M&P 15-22. Haven’t decided whether I’m going to inspect the bolt myself or send it in, but I guess this firearm is sidelined for the time being.

Well, I haven’t had a chance to to go shooting for a while. It’s either lousy weather (we’ve been having a lot of that in Las Vegas lately) or my back has been bothering me. I had everything laid out to go shooting on January 13 and the back spasms got so bad I had to take a tizanidine and lay down. No driving after taking that stuff and the range is a 22 mile drive away. And this Sunday, it’s supposed to be a high of 46 degrees F. Noting like the average high of 64 F like it’s supposed to be in February. The heating bill has been much higher than average.

Been thinking of getting another long rifle, hunting variety. Maybe either a .308 (cuz even though I don’t have it anymore, I got a lot of .308 ammo), or a .243 or 6.5 . Or both. Any recommendations?

Well, I finally decided to take a CCW class at Briarhawk Firearms & Ammo in Las Vegas. It was Friday night and Saturday morning. Class room instruction Friday night, with range qualification on Saturday morning, followed by more instruction and a test. Got two wrong on the test. All together, a good use of time as when I get the CCW, I won’t have to pay for a $25 background check every time I buy a firearm, and I’d like to buy another 5-6 weapons. Besides, I’ll be able to legally carry a firearm in more situations than I can carry now.

Went to SW on Tuesday to pick up a few thing that I’ll need for a trip. Visited the web site afterwards and checked out what they have in black powder rifles. They have a Thompson Center Impact in camo and weather shield with a scope. I used to own a T/C blackpowder rifle and sold it with a heavy heart, maybe it’s time to renew the relationship.
